THE WITCHER SERIES IS NEXT UP IN NETFLIX’S QUEUE
The Witcher game trilogy has always been regarded in the gaming community as some of the greatest RPG games ever created. The 2015 release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its subsequent DLCs won nearly every gaming accolade of that year. It was heralded for its amazing visuals and gameplay, but what really made it stand out amongst its contemporaries was the rich and sprawling world that was created around it.
The depth of story came about because the game was created as an adaptation of Polish author, Andrzej Sapkowski’s very popular fantasy novels based around our favorite bad boy, Geralt. I know what you’re saying. Just because the games were good and maybe the books as well doesn’t mean that the scenes will translate well onto the small screen. I get it.
That’s where we’ll have to be open minded. The show has even tapped Sapkowski as a creative consultant, which should serve to ease a few nervous souls. “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing,” he said in a recent press conference. Sapkowski also noted that he is “excited to work with the rest of the team to shepherd his characters to life.” If that steadfast blessing isn’t enough to sell you, the series has already assembled an all-star production team that features a handful Oscar nominees.
Only time (and an actual trailer) will tell what kind of experience us as fans can expect from the new series. According to filmmakers Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko, this series will transcend genre and reveal the hero and monster that lives instead all of us.
