IRRELEVANT GAMER

I’m not sure how many of you guys have been hip to the work that TellTale Games has been doing for the last few years. They’re a company that has made a name for itself by taking crowd favorite movies, books, and tv shows and making them into interactive video games. Everything from The Walking Dead to the Game of Thrones have TellTale adaptations, all of which are tied together and made great by inspiring storytelling and gripping decision making.

Yesterday the fourth installment in their Game of Thrones series was released. Less than twenty-four hours later and the episode is already receiving rave reviews from players and companies alike. Powerhouses like IGN have heralded it as the best episode yet, which after playing it I would have to agree.

Sons of Winter, the episode’s name, features nonstop action from start to finish. Some past episodes had a tendency to draw on for periods of time, plaguing me with scenarios that I didn’t have a vested interest in. Yes, I’m looking at you Gared Tuttle. This episode wasn’t like that at all. Even characters I haven’t had the chance to attach to yet were thrust into the story and pulled it along at a nice action-packed pace.

Before I knew it I’d passed the two hour mark. Like the past episodes your decisions weigh heavily on how the story progresses and some of them hit you from nowhere leaving your time meter just about empty before you choose in a panic. That may or may not have happened to me two or three times.

All in all, I’d have to agree with IGN when they say that this is by far one of the best episodes to date. I only just got my heart to stop racing and I already want to play it again.
